Langkawi's development is very concentrated and not spread unlike phuket or bali. Most of the resorts are either located along the Chenang or Burau Bay area, while Kuah town is where the bazaars and mall's are located. Most of major hotels there are well managed and have good facilities. If budget is of no concern, consider Berjaya Resort, Mutiara (Burau Bay), Four Seasons, The Datai.

Langkawi is an island where you go and just simply rest and relax, there is nothing much to do and not many attractions that are worthwhile, except for some of the natural attractions (Dayang Bunting Island, Pulau Payar. Eagle Watching, Black sand beach).

try the area called "pantai cenang" it has many affordable hotels and chalets. many food & facilities there too.
best shopping will be at "kuah town" many things to buy there.

Hi, we just came back from Langkawi last weekend. Stayed at Pelangi Resort at Pantai Cenang. We wanted to go sightseeing but we enjoyed the hotel amenities so much that we forego sightseeing (it's also our 2nd trip there and sightseeing was done on our 1st trip).

Duty free shopping at Kuah town - if you are keen to buy cutleries, luggages, alcohol and chocolates, otherwise it's too hot to enjoy shopping!

Have fun!
