The Singapore International was very good ( in the 60’s )
The Adelphi is very central,The Raffles was good,too.

Most hotels in Singapore in the central area are 5 or 6 star hotels. An average night would cost around S$350 to $400. Unless you go for budget hotels along Chinatown area, but they do not offer a gym and pool. The cheapest one is Hotel Rendezvous, which is the cheapest at about S$220 per night, excluding taxes and other charges.
Octopus is a good site for hotel bookings. You would probably want to be in the Orchard Road area.
