I am not a penangite but I have been travelling to Penang lately for business meetings. In fact, i just stayed in The Northam the past few days and the rooms are very huge.. you will enjoy the facililties there. The taxi fare fr the airport to The Northam cost me abt RM40.. the taxi drivers there dont use meters. a ride from Gurney back to the hotel could set you back by RM10....!!!! Just imagine a trip of around 3km... RM10? they literally slaughtered me. So better to check and make sure you agree on the taxi fare before you enter the taxi. It is even worse than in KL.

There is a restaurant along Gurney Road , not too far from The Gurney Hotel.. called Song river which serves pretty decent penang fare. I tried it a couple of times and it was quite good, definitely better than the hawker stalls in Gurney Drive.

Quensbay mall is one of the the better malls in Penang, i think it opened abt a year ago.. something like Mid Valley ..

You can find good food anywhere in Penang as long as you are adventurous enough.. i just drive around and eat where the locals eat. Sample their char kuay teow.. but the Two sisters Char kuay teow are too over rated.. will cost you RM7.50 per plate and u need to have the patience of a monk as it takes almost forever to arrive.
I luv the hawker food and the variety along Jln Macalister at night. There is also a nasi kandar stall in Chulia street which serves great and authentic nasi kandar and teh tarik... the locals gather there ...

Have a great trip!! You will enjoy Penang.. i know I do
