If I am to tour Kota Kinabalu in a day, what are the must go places?

I will be staying during the poor Tune Hotel as well as will be renting the automobile for the day. Please indicate the places to go from Tune Hotel, i.e. introduce track if possible.

secondly, do we know anybody who could lease the automobile cheap? i need an automobile sedan.
Thanks RajaRisiko, really utilitarian info indeed.

btw, is the Monsopiad Cultural Village value starting to? What about the State Museum (esp. the Heritage Village)? Thanks the copiousness ^_^

    Suggestions:
  1. Of all the hotel you choose that hotel that is far from KK city itself especially if you have no car, there are many budget hotel in KK itself.Tulah tidak tanya sifu Super Sapien

You can go to Wisma Sabah in KK and there are a few tour operator renting car/motorcycle.

You should go to Manukan island,Tanjung aru, Kundasang 2 hours drive,Simpang Mengayau 3 hours drive,Pulau Tiga by boat tour package 2 days 1 night for RM300.You must try Fish head soup at Penampang the Kedai makan is called Wan Wan served the best fish head soup in KK served no pork. Salut or Gayang seafood restaurant 35 minutes drive

One cultural village in Inanam 30 minute from KK is better it’s called Mari2 cultural village

  2. you can try to email butterfly (long time yammer but lost in space for a few months) she is a tour guide in kk

  3. If you are coming to KK in the morning, then you will have a lot of things to do.

You will land at Terminal 2, which is nearer to the KK town rather than the hotel. If you carry a lot of baggage then proceed to the hotel. My suggestion is to come with the least baggage possible and bring a big luggage bag.

Once you are at the hotel, you need to decide: either shop till you drop at the 1Borneo Mall where the hotel is adjacent to (the mall opens usually around 11am), or head straight to the Phillipines market at the KK town (about 15 km away, RM30 by cab) where you can grab hold of the pearls and crafts and seafood and all. Duh.. ditch the mall and haggle your way through =)

Must haves: Pearl brooches, Borneo batik sarongs, dried scallops and other fish, Sabah tea.

After you are done shopping, don’t leave before having a KK seafood fest. The nearest food haven is about 1km from the Phillipines market. Called The Ocean Village, it is hard to miss, as it is beside the Hotel Promenade. Do try the steamed ‘Kerapu tikus’ aka Humpback/Panther Grouper or Barramundi Cod (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humpback_grouper).

After meals, you might want to head for the sea. The nearest is Tanjung Aru where the beach is fantastic. Be there after 6pm to enjoy the night entertainment. Oh, the jellyfish are around in the mornings, so it is safe to have a dip at that time.

Cars are aplenty, especially during non peak periods. Try:

Try and get a few days extra, you might want to ask about trekking Mount Kinabalu next!

    Bon Voyage

  4. Aiyooo rugi betul la tinggal d Tune Hotel… You can just stay at Tang Dynasty instead of that crappy hotel.

Must go places in kk? Well lemme see… mmm… 1Borneo of course, lagipun you tinggal dekat sana juga kan, of course la mau pergi right?? :P Oh ya you should visit the State Museum, for me it’s boring (because I’ve been there loads of time when I was a wee kid) but you can learn about our tribes there. If you want more information just go to this website:

    Have fun!

  5. If you start early, you can visit the Kinabalu Park + Poring + Kundasang area in one day and be back in the city for dinner.

Or if you prefer the beach, just head out to the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park and choose one of the islands there. I visited Pulau Sapi and loved it.
