If you would like to stay near to Sogo, your choice will be Arnoma, Intercontinental and Holiday Inn. The cheapest one will be Arnoma – US$92/night. (Intercontinental – US$250 +, Holiday Inn – US$ 120+) It’s also just opposite Central World, Big C superstore is on the right side, Gaysorn is on the left side and 10 minutes walk away from Platinum. Just outside the hotel, the street had many peddlers selling food, fruits, souvenirs, t-shirts, shoes at a bargain.
If you’d go for Pathumwan Princess, there’s a good deal. It’s US$117/night (originally $203) for a superior room.
For something you shouldn’t miss in Bangkok, maybe you should try dinner along the river. Lots of nice restaurants around there. Have a nice trip!!

Baiyoke Sky is fine, but not near to Sogo.

When you are hotel shopping see if you can get a hotel near the Skytrain. The Skytrain can take you around the city quick and easy.
