The airport shuttle doesn’t leave the airport area. There is an Airport Express bus for 150 baht that gets you close to some hotels. The Airport Express bus leaves directly from the airport not the little bus station that you need the shuttle bus to get to!
Best to take a meter taxi. The taxi sign up desk is just outside the arrivals hall near the curb. Tell the taxi sign up clerk that you want to pay “meter only” and give the person the address of the hotel you want to go to. Your fare will include a one time, from the airport only, charge of 50 baht. Plus you have to pay for any tolls, perhaps 2 coming to a total of 65 baht added to the meter fare – all of which is paid at the hotel. If the driver asks for toll money that is okay, just don’t pay him twice, you get a receipt and the price is written on a sign. Have small bills available to pay the driver if you want any change back. Avoid the many touts in the arrivals hall selling rides into town unless you WANT to pay more for your transportation!
Some 3 Star hotels are around the same price as “no star” hotels. Basic hotel rooms can be found around 600 baht, these rooms include air, hot water, private toilet and TV. There is no set budget for every traveler. How much you want to spend on a hotel will determine which hotel you can use. How much do you want to spend per night?
You can check out the Asia Hotel. The Asia Hotel is right on a Skytrain stop. You can use the Skytrain to get around town and to get near Central World. There are fewer bars around the Asia Hotel if bars would be a problem. If you prefer lots of bars around then get a hotel on Sukhumvit Road nearer the Nana Skytrain stop.
The price for a meter taxi in Bangkok is cheap compared to other capital cities in the world. ONLY pay the meter charge and do not bargain the ride! Bargaining the ride will have you end up with a price more than the a meter price! Most taxi cabs parked outside hotels, especially more expensive places, will often only bargain the price of a ride. Wave a moving taxi down and tell the driver meter only!
Meter taxi cabs are cheaper than tuk-tuks unless you can speak Thai. Also, taxi cabs are air conditioned and safer. The Skytrain can take you to many places in Bangkok but the route is set, you may have to walk a little after you get off the train.

You can get to the Central World Plaza either by Taxi or Airport Express bus. 2 of the bus routes will get you there. AE1 is the shortest ride for 150 baht. If you are traveling light then the bus is the answer. By taxi it may cost you 150 to 200 baht plus 50 baht airport fee. Most of the hotels in your budget are NOT walking distance and in the heat you don’t want walk unless you are acclimated. So, really a taxi is ideal, air conditioned and they will take you to your hotel door. The people at the airport will make sure the driver knows where to go. Insist he turn on the meter. And if he takes the express way you may end up paying another 40-60 baht. You are only talking about USD 1 or 2 extra. Exchange rate is hovering around 31-32 baht per USD right now.
As far as hotels for a 3 star can range from USD 20 per nite to USD 50 per night. The ones near Central World range from around USD 40 night. I would suggest Baiyoke Suite Hotel

So, budget USD 250 for the 5 days. Budget another USD 20-50 for food and entertainment and taxi fare per day.
