going to bangkok early october and are decding on a hotel, we were thinking about Le Fenix?

and we am additionally wondering what there is to do around this area? as well as how most a cab will be from here to a airport?

There are 5 suggestions to question “going to bangkok early october and are decding on a hotel, we were thinking about Le Fenix?”

  1. Hotel is in good location for lots of stuff!

Nightlife, restaurants, malls, street vendors, supermarkets, small shops are within close walk. On Sukhumvit Road the Skytrain is available. The Skytrain can take you to many places in Bangkok like MBK, Patpong, Chatuchak Weekend Market, Ekamai bus terminal and connect with subway at Asoke.

From the airport a taxi will run around 350 baht total. Taxis available 24 hours a day from airport. TripAdvisor forum has lots of info on taxis and other stuff. Upper right hand corner has taxi info, etc.

Basic hotel with air, hot water, private toilet, TV and maid service will start around 600 baht in Bangkok. You will find more hotels in Fenix price range, take the time to check out some other places nearby for next time.

    Good luck.

A lot depends on why you are coming to BKK. If you are going to be sitting around all day drinking and partying, then this area is good. This area is all foreigners, Arabs, Africans selling drugs, (soi 3, not that far away). If you are coming to sightsee and see Thai tradition and culture, pick another area, like down Sukhumvit more or the Silom area. Anything Sukhumvit soi 1-13 or so is not an attractive area to be in.
Taxi to this area will be around 300 baht, all depending on traffic. Avoid Friday afternoons, very bad traffic congestion.

  4. I assume you are a couple in the 30′s and your selection of the Le Fenix reflects your sort of modern and hip lifestyle. I drove past the hotel many times but never wandered in. On the outside the hotel looked rather "cool" which obviously reflects your taste. It is located in a lane (Sukhumvit Soi 11) that is probably the best area for nightlife, dining and transportation (near Nana Skytrain station) in Bangkok’s Sukhumvit area which is in itself Bangkok’s major tourist area.

Diagnolly across the small lane from the hotel is Q Bar, well known among local and expats and probably a Bangkok’s top ten bar. I used to frequent that bar which plays good music and is normally filled with foreign tourists/expats and many freelancers. Nearby is Bed Supper club with good music and interesting design worth at least a visit. Not to mention many more entertainment venues and hotels in case you change your mind about Le Fenix. Several Italian and Western restaurants are in the area as well. A lot of other day-time tourist attractions can be reached via a combination of Skytrain + taxi transfer. If Le Fenix hotel expenses are not a problem you may want to stay there or move into another less expensive smaller boutique hotel in the area.

Taxi fare from the airport to hotel should cost around 400-500 Baht (not certain but should be in this range). It’s best to tell taxi driver to use the Expressway and get off at Sukhumvit Road exit which is only 5-10 minutes from the hotel. The best way to tell your taxi driver where you’re going is telling him "Sukhumvit Soi 11 near Q Bar". Many taxi drivers know Q Bar better than the hotel.

    Good Luck.

  5. If you’re looking for nightlife it’s ideally located near to some of the best discos in Bangkok (Bed & Supper Club, Q-Bar). And there’s an eclectic choice of restaurants in the area. The (French-owned) hotel itself is slightly better than basic, small rooms limited facilities. There are far better hotels in the Soi 11 area which are similarly priced (e.g. Grand President, President Solitaire, Royal President).
