good choices would be Hotel Malaysia slightly over RM100, Hotel Oriental about RM80 and Peking Hotel about RM60, all these 3 are very nearby to each other

all those hotels are what as you describe, very good location, really at the middle of Georgetown, walking distance to most Georgetown tourist attraction, most important it is between 500 meter from Upper Penang Road, the hottest night life area in Penang

it is also walking distance to Penang’s most expensive hotel E&O

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Google up for Tune Hotel. Its newly opened in George Town and is right in the middle of town.
