Even hotels at half that price range will have air, hot water, private toilet and shower plus TV and maid service.
Try the Ibis Hotel. Close to the Nana Skytrain stop. Easy walk to restaurants, malls, nightlife, street vendors and supermarkets. http://www.bangkok.com/ibis-nana/
Another choice is the Grand Business Inn. Other side of Sukhumvit Road from the Ibis. Same street vendors, malls, restaurants, etc. A little closer to the Skytrain. http://www.grandbusinessinn.net/room_rate.html
If the "we" are a couple guys then check out the Fortuna Hotel. Located on Sukhumvit Soi 5. Near the same places as the other hotels, close to Foodland Supermarket where there is an in-store restaurant open 24 hours. You will see more men and women bringing their dates back to this hotel than the other two places, especially the Ibis. I like the Fortuna "all you can eat" breakfast buffet when I am in Bangkok in the morning. I use cheaper hotels if I am in Bangkok. Married couples do use this hotel too because of price and location. http://www.fortunabangkok.com/
Good luck.
Sukhumvit Soi 22
near BTS Skytrain, Phrom Pong station
Queen’s Park Hotel 4 star
highly recommendable for security, superlative service, good view
and reasonable rate 2800B. If you can book internet, the fare will be
less than 2500B. Access with subway Sukhumvit station is only 7,8 min on foot.
I was just checking prices and there are alot of reasonably priced hotels in Bangkok.
Let me preface that I normally stay away from the CBD or central business district along Sukhumvit which is where the skytrain is. I researched the area some. I prefer the open skies and cleaner air along Ratchadapisek Road and the subway.
I have stayed at a few different hotels in Bangkok of varying prices and locations. Le Meridien Plaza Athenee’ Hotel (a 5 star hotel) on Wireless Road, very expensive now, very nice. 10 minute walk to the Skytrain. I would definitely recommend it if you can afford but, it is out of your budget right now.
Amari Atrium Hotel(4 star hotel) on Phetchaburi Road, as a hotel it’s fine. For the daily rate it is too much. Not impressed. Too far from the Subway, nothing around it such as alternative restaurants etc.
Grand Mercure Fortune Hotel(4 star hotel) on Ratchadapisek Road, nice relatively clean hotel, connected to Fortune Mall, where you can buy souvenirs, clothes, electronics and there is a Tesco/Lotus so you can get groceries etc. 3 minute walk to the subway. A little pricey for the convenience, I think. To me they need to remodel their rooms. They may have already. Competition is tough so. Many comments on the reviews on Asiarooms.com say that. I have to agree. Stayed there in 2007. Rate now is USD 75 per night
The Emerald Hotel (4 Star Hotel), I think it is better than Grand Mercure Fortune hotel at USD 57 per night. 5 minute walk to subway station and 12 minute ride to Sukhumvit and skytrain. Breakfast buffet is good. Coffee shop is good. Staff there is good. Stayed 5-6 times because of nice rooms, good price, good location and each room has a safe. Oh one down side is there is a central atrium. No A/C in the hallways.
The Palazzo Hotel (3 star hotel), it maybe lower than that. It’s okay, stayed there once. At USD 38 per night, a bargain. Similar to Siam Beverly Hotel or Bangkok Cha Da Hotel across the street. It is right behind the Emerald Hotel across from a 7-11 store. Clean rooms and decent. For the price it is okay.
Chao Phaya Park Hotel (4 star hotel), about the same as Emerald Hotel, a little nicer. They were in the midst of remodeling all their rooms when I visited. I had one of the remodeled rooms. Very nice. My friend came later and he stayed in an old room. It was okay. This way July 2007 so they should be done. At USD 51 per night this is nice. 3 buffet restaurants. One of them, they bus people in to visit. Did not get a chance to eat there. It’s a seafood buffet. It’s a good 7 minute walk to the subway station and about a 15 minute ride to Sukhumvit. Staff is nice and pleasant.
To be near the skytrain
The Amari Boulevard Hotel (4 star hotel) at USD 75 night is 5 minutes from a skytrain station.
Now, I remember why I do not stay near the skytrain there are few hotels within 5-10 minutes walking distance at a reasonable room rate.
My recommendations would be Emerald Hotel or Chao Phaya Park Hotel. Or if you have to be near the skytrain, the 2 hotels I mentioned last.
Though the Palazzo Hotel is a reasonable alternative on the lower end. Siam Beverly Hotel or Bangkok Cha Da hotel is nice. Or even the Hip Hotel which is new right behind the Palazzo Hotel. It is a converted apartment building. LOL
One thing, there is a night Market in Huay Khwang just the next street over. So if you like a variety of food this is another plus.
Good luck.
the bel-air princess sukhumvit soi 5 , 2mins walk to nana sky train , good price and great location , very thing in walking distance
Royal President, Soi 15 Sukhumvit. Mercure Soi 22 Sukhumvit. Unico Soi 1 Sukhumvit. all reasonably priced and close to skytrain (never take taxi unless you are going a short distance), except Mercure which is a little bit of a walk. For comfort, and location with a modest price, my favorite Bangkok hotel is S15 (great staff).
A site I found to have an extensive list of hotels in all price ranges and all areas of Bangkok is HotelsCombined.com.
I live here and don’t need a hotel but need to find one for visitors now and then. I found it difficult to find hotels away from the tourist areas until I happened upon this site.
there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
Amari Boulevard is quite a nice hotel, there are lots of choices, there are many very good bargains so you may get a very good hotel within your budget
arnoma hotel. in the middle of loads of hubub and near 2 skytrains on both different routes so can get anywhere easily. lots of shopping around. great location
